1. Scottish Literature's Unexplored Archives

Unexplored archives have the potential to enrich and transform the field of Scottish literary studies. As our four speakers present their encounters with such archives, we will ask: What are the challenges and rewards of working with unexplored archives? What stories do these archives tell and what stories do they omit or silence? How can we make these and other archives widely accessible to scholars around the world so that we can foster a global community around the study of Scottish literature and culture?

2. Environmental Scotland

Discussions and representations of ‘nature’ and ‘landscape’ in their different meanings — physical, social, cultural and symbolic — have been historically entangled with literary constructions of Scotland’s national or regional identities. In the 21st century, a growing concern with environmental issues has intensified the scholarly and literary debate on the relationship between Scotland, its environment and global issues of sustainability, and has shaped new, exciting critical perspectives and innovative re-readings of Scottish literary texts.
